What is BS 1090 - Construction product regulations?
Fabricated steel components are deemed “safety critical”, as a result of which, if you supply or manufacture products it is now a legal requirement for you to comply with the stringent requirements of BS EN 1090 and ensure that your products are appropriately UKCA/CE marked.
BS 1090 requires an organisation to ensure that appropriate controls are in place throughout the manufacturing process; design, purchasing, fabrication, testing and, where it is undertaken, on site installation. Documented processes and practices (a factory production control system) need to be in place for:
- Determining the execution clause
- Different execution clauses address the level of risk, and the degree of control required
- Specifying and purchasing materials and consumables
- Checking received goods
- Controlling and checking the manufacturing process
- You need to know who has done what
- Staff training, qualifications and competence
- Calibrating equipment
